Papa’s Swedish Meatballs

Yes, you can buy these in the freezer at Ikea, but it doesn’t hurt to know how to make them. Warning: Time consuming! (worth it)

Ingredients
1 1/2 cups day-old white bread, crumbled
1/2 stick butter
1 small onion, minced
1 pound ground beef
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
1/3  cup beef broth

Sauce
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour, or as needed
1 1/3 cups beef broth, or as needed
2 tablespoons whipping cream
Pinch ground allspice

Instructions
Add 2 tablespoons of the butter to large  pan over medium heat
Add chopped onion and sauté until soft
Cool slightly
In bowl, combine bread, beef stock, allspice, salt, pepper and onion
Stir well and add ground beef and egg
Mix gently, but well
Form into balls
Melt rest of butter into pan
Brown meatballs on all sides
Remove from pan
Add flour to pan
Stir until brown, about 4 minutes
Whisk in beef broth and cream
Simmer and whisk until smooth
Add meatballs and gently heat back up
